The Gentle Way Principles

Natural Horse Communication

When we think like a horse, it becomes easier to understand them. And when we understand them, we can more quickly and easily develop strong, safe, and collaborative relationships with them. Everything about your relationship with your horse will improve—from care and maintenance to riding.

First, it’s important to understand that horses are not capable of logical thought in the same way humans are. They are flight animals with an innate claustrophobia, and they have only three core instincts: to feed, to survive, and to reproduce. They live in the present moment and respond to their immediate environment based on their instincts, past experiences, and individual personalities. Horses are not capable of planning ahead, abstract reasoning, or deception. Instead, they respond to your true feelings and the energy you project in the moment.

A horse loves nothing more than a being who understands them and knows how to support them properly.

Services

Judith and Ebony, when your horse trusts you.

About Me

With over 25 years of experience in the equestrian field, I have cultivated a deep understanding of horse behavior and training techniques. I integrate my own work and findings, refined over the years, along with training with some of the world's best horsemen including Monty Roberts and Jean-Francois Pignon.

My passion for horses led me to establish Parkland Ranch in Manitoba where I offered a variety of services including horseback riding lessons, different clinics and courses and gentle horse training for almost 15 years.

Throughout my career, I have successfully trained and ridden not only my own horses but also hundreds of client horses using only halters – demonstrating that bits are not necessary when following The Gentle Way.

I practice Gentle Horsemanship which is based on communication in the language that the horse understands. This language is part body language and part energy exchange, something we humans were born with but lost through education, rules and too much logical thinking. Working with horses will bring back your natural instincts - it is awakening, inspiring, and rewarding!

Today, I travel across Canada as a horse psychology consultant, helping horses and their humans build stronger, more meaningful relationships.

My specialized expertise includes:

  • Resolving behavioral issues in troubled horses

  • Helping horses overcome past trauma

  • Addressing specific handling challenges such as: hoof lifting and trailer loading difficulties and general handling issues

  • Teaching owners to read and respond to their horse

  • Conducting workshops and clinics for all experience levels

  • Transitioning from bit to halter riding

The Gentle Way with Horses

This retreat takes place at the serene Ravenheart Farms, where you can stay in a rustic log cabin, cozy tent, or your own RV to fully immerse yourself in a true nature experience. Learn the language of the horses to truly understand and communicate with them. We have the opportunity to work with Ravenheart's horses, which range from very shy to cuddly personalities. If you would like to bring your own horse, please contact us.

I will be traveling across Canada from May 10 to October 10, 2025. Reach out to arrange an event at your farm or riding stable, or to schedule private training sessions or specialized courses.
